I Won’t Lose Heart: A Tribute to Shelly Longenecker

Shelly Longenecker graduated into the arms of Jesus.

We all have trials, and I don’t know what your struggle is today, but I know Who is stronger than any struggle, overcomes battles, crushes our enemies, defeats speculations, calms our soul, gives strength to the weary, and carries us to eternal victory.

Sometimes things can change so much that it changes the way we experience something—changes the way we see it. I originally posted “I Won’t Lose Heart” during Shelly’s cancer battle, and now, she is with the Father and has entered eternal glory. She herself thanked me for this post and then quickly shared it with her friends and audience.

She will be greatly missed.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Shelly inspired me with bravery and perseverance. She also gave me a lesson on living. One day in the middle of her battle she told me, “I’m not looking to the end. I am learning how to live. How to live each day to the fullest. This battle is teaching me how to live.”

Shelly Longenecker, friend, author, mom, cancer fighter. She created 100 Days of Biblical Affirmations to help herself during her cancer struggle and these affirmations are helping and encouraging others nationwide.

This is one of her posts on her 100 Days of Biblical Affirmations site…

Having a very rough stretch over here. My symptoms are extreme and difficult. Basic functions of life are challenging at this point. I am exhausted. My body is weary. My spirit is weary. I broke down today – finding myself at the end of…well, at the end of myself.

While waiting at the hospital to get the fluid drained from my abdomen, I knew I needed courage inserted into my bones. I pulled out my biblical affirmation cards – so I could bring my thinking in agreement with God’s Word and be encouraged by His truth. This one was on top.

Absolutely perfect, Lord. Thank you.

I won’t lose heart.

I’m so encouraged that God doesn’t ask us to have it all together. To be perfect. He just asks us to come to Him. And then He is faithful to carry us through the storm.

I share this with you today, in case someone here is at the end of their rope, like I am today. And, if you are, I want to encourage you to turn to Jesus. Meditate on this verse. Claim this affirmation. And be filled with the peace of God.

I HAVE TOLD YOU THESE THINGS. SO THAT IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE. IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE. BUT TAKE HEART! I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.

-JOHN 16:33
