What Are You Waiting For?

There are times where life throws you turns and crashes. Like right now, we are all waiting for something. Like not having to wear a mask anymore. How nice would that be?

I’m reminded of a true story…

A speaker missed his flight and argued with the flight personnel. He pleaded with them at the gate of what was supposed to be the plane he boarded. But the door was shut.

He explained that he had to get on the flight to make it to the speaking engagement he had.

They wouldn’t budge. There was no way he was going to board that plane. He was too late.

Angry, he waited in line for twenty minutes to complain to management.

While he waited, he became aware of the devastating news that the flight he was supposed to be on had crashed.

He got out of the line.

He missed his flight on American Airlines flight 191, which crashed moments after take-off. Witnesses said they saw one of the three engines on the plane fall off landing on the runway of Chicago’s O’Hare airport moments before the crash. Hospitals were put on alert and waited for the flood of the injured survivors.

Not one ever made it to the hospital.

In 1979, on flight 191 headed to Los Angeles, California, two people on the ground, and two hundred seventy-one people on board, died.

Sometimes life throws us unwanted turns.

Do you ever feel angry because you feel like your life is not going the way you had hoped?

How do you feel when you have to cancel plans because something popped up unexpectantly?

I don’t like waiting.

Do you?

Often in life we are waiting for “whatever” to happen.

Waiting for the promotion.

Waiting for the proposal.

Waiting for a relocation.

Waiting for the papers to arrive.

Waiting for the leak to be fixed.

Waiting for COVID to be over.

Waiting for God to do something.

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

-Psalm 46:10

When we trust that God is in control we can rest in His sovereign plan.

Waiting can be a gift… just not ready to open yet.

I don’t know about you, but I’m waiting for many things right now. And I don’t like it. But maybe waiting is exactly where God wants me to be.

Maybe waiting is where I will learn to trust Him the most.

And for that I’m thankful.

What are you thankful for today?
