Does Your Life Feel Like It’s Leaking?

There’s a water leak under our house. I’m not sure how it all works but my beloved front porch is torn up as we wait for the plumber. There are times in life where life throws you turns and crashes.

I recently heard a true story about a speaker who missed his flight. He argued with the flight personnel at the gate of what was supposed to be the plane he boarded after the door shut. He explained that he had to get on the flight to make it to the speaking engagement he had but they wouldn’t budge, they would not allow him to board. He was too late. Angry he waited in line for twenty minutes to complain to management when he became aware of the fact that the flight he was supposed to be on had crashed.

He got out of the line.

He missed his flight on American Airlines flight 191 which crashed moments after take-off. Witnesses said they saw one of the three engines on the plane fall off landing on the runway of Chicago’s O’Hare airport moments before the crash. Hospitals were put on alert and waited for the flood of the  injured survivors. Not one person from the crash ever made it to the hospital. In 1979 two people on the ground and 271 on board flight 191 died. Their destination was Los Angeles, California.

Sometimes life throws us unwanted turns.

Do you ever feel angry because you feel like your life is not going the way you had hoped? How frustrated do you get when you have to wait longer to get to your destination due to unforeseen circumstances? How do you feel when you have to cancel plans because something popped up unexpectedly?

Waiting for the leak to be fixed is taking longer than my husband and I expected. I don’t like waiting.

Do you?

Often in life we are waiting for “whatever” to happen.

Waiting for the promotion.

Waiting for the proposal.

Waiting for a relocation.

Waiting for the papers to arrive.

Waiting for the leak to be fixed.

Waiting for God to do something.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

– Psalm 46:10

If we trust that God is in control we can rest in His sovereign plan. Waiting can be a gift just not ready to open yet.

I don’t like that there is a water leak under my house. I don’t like that I don’t have the use of my front porch. I don’t like waiting for the plumber. But maybe waiting is exactly where God wants me to be and where I will learn to trust Him the most. And for that I’m thankful.

What are you thankful for today?

Be blessed my friend!

Fondly,

Lu
