Chasing a Pot of Gold – A Three Minute Devotion

I heard a sweet true story about two little boys. The person who told me this story is now a full functioning productive successful adult—even though the story could have left a mother wondering about the future of her son.

Two little boys were walking on the way to school and they noticed a magnificent rainbow. The end of the rainbow seemed almost close enough to touch. Both boys began to run toward the end of the rainbow.

They ran one block, and then two, and then three…running faster and faster. But no matter how fast these boys ran they couldn’t seem to get to the gold—to the end of the rainbow.

The boys ran over ten blocks.

Tired and defeated they realized the end of the rainbow wasn’t as close as they had thought, in fact, it seemed completely elusive.

The boys were late to school that day.

Did you ever believe there was a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?

I did as a kid.

Then, we grow up with a plethora of hard knocks and realize there’s no pot of gold at the end of our rainbows.

But some of us are still chasing rainbows. We strive and run and hustle without ever enjoying our path along the way. There’s nothing wrong with going after a dream, but if we never stop and admire the rainbow along the way we could miss our greatest blessings–the actual rainbows.

Oftentimes the process is our teacher. If we aren’t enjoying the process how will we enjoy the gold? Will we know when we’ve arrived at our pot of gold?

Stop and enjoy the rainbows.

Today, remember to enjoy the blessings that are right in front of you.

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

-Psalm 16:11
