A Lull Between Christmas and New Year’s and Resolutions

I’m feeling the lull between Christmas and New Year’s, are you? There’s such a big build-up to Christmas and once the festivities have all settled, and family goes back to their homes, it all can seem a bit too quiet and lonely. Even writing this is taking all of my energy, but I’m forcing myself. We need to act our way out of a lull and not just sit in it, have you ever heard that?

I feel like I should be writing my New Year’s resolutions…

What are your goals for 2020?

What changes do you want to make?

How much weight are you going to lose?

I can’t do it. I just can’t. I won’t. All of my New Year’s resolutions boil down to ONE thing, just one. I’ll share it with you at the end of this post but for now, a story about Christmas—and a little mistake I made—actually, it wasn’t that little, it was kinda big… And then, we’ll get to that ONE thing.

My Ninja coffee maker stopped working properly about a month ago. It would stop brewing in the middle of a pot and make this annoying beeping sound, it was very frustrating. I called the company and after paying roughly twenty bucks for shipping, a new one was on the way.

I waited. And waited. And waited for my new coffee machine.

While hosting Christmas Eve brunch the coffee machine was beeping away. I’d figured out a way to finish my coffee brewing by boiling water and doing a pour over method, but it took so much more time. Time I didn’t want to spare during my cooking and preparation.

I kept complaining to my family about my coffee woes and everyone was quite invested because we all enjoy coffee. My daughter and son-in-law even showed up with Starbucks in hand because they didn’t want to risk a bad cup of coffee. Can we say, Coffee Snob?

Christmas arrived and I still didn’t have my new Ninja.

With all the family together we opened all of our Christmas presents…and there was one left. It was a gift to my husband from me. He unwrapped the gift and there it was…

My Ninja coffee maker.

I had wrapped my new Ninja and tagged it to my husband as a Christmas gift!

Not my finest moment.

Have you ever said, “I can’t believe I did that?” Well, that was my motto for the rest of the day, “I can’t believe I did that.”

And yes, I laughed—a lot—but it wasn’t exactly a nice thing to give my husband a gift that wasn’t really a gift.

Which brings me to my ONE resolution for 2020…

Be better than last year. That’s it, I just want to be a better person this coming year than I was the year before. I want to have a closer relationship with God. I want to be a better wife, mom, friend. I want to have better character. I want to be a better listener. I want to serve better. I want to love better.

I want to be a better person. That’s my ONE New Year’s Resolution.

And hopefully by Christmas 2020 all of my husband’s gifts will be truly gifts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wishing you a blessed and joyous 2020!
