Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Marriage Principle

I think I ate chicken! Okay, to most this is no big deal, BUT to me I can make it a huge deal. I haven’t eaten chicken for over 10 years. I’m a vegetarian who eats fish, which is technically a pescatarian. No beef. No rooster. No cow. No lamb. And definitely NO chicken. Until, as of this writing, maybe today, because I may have eaten a chicken sandwich.

Here’s the low down…

My husband and I were speaking at a conference and as we went through the lunch line I saw something that looked like tuna. I had my husband taste it and he definitely thought it was tuna. Now, I’m not blamin’ him AT ALL. HE really thought it was tuna. So, I filled my croissant with this “tuna.”

As I ate the sandwich it didn’t taste right to me and I pulled the sandwich apart and ate the “meat” without the bread and…YUP! I think it was chicken. At this point I began feeling sick. But I finished the rest of my sandwich.

Why?

Because I convinced myself it was tuna and didn’t want to know any different.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is to think the best and discard the rest.

And in marriage sometimes the best and most healthy thing you can do is to think the best about your spouse and MOVE ON! When we allow our mind to dwell on what is good and what is the best part of our spouse we end up seeing more and more excellent qualities about them.

I really don’t want to know if I ate chicken FOR SURE. I’d rather stay in limbo and wonder if I did. And move on.

This all may sound silly to you, but, let me ask you…

How often do we create drama where there doesn’t need to be drama?

Love your husband.

Love your wife.

And only focus on what’s good about them, and ignore the dirty socks on the floor. Pick the socks up and say, Thank you, God, for a husband that can walk! When your wife is late, say, Thank you, God, for a woman who cares about her looks!

Love your spouse and look for the good in this wonderful person you chose to do life with.

And…

thank God for them daily.

Fondly,

Lu
