I was reading each day’s post to my husband. These posts were very special to me. My publisher offered a 7-Day Marriage Challenge taken from my book. I signed up. Yes, I signed up for the marriage challenge that I wrote! Kind of funny, huh? As the challenges showed up in my inbox I read them to my husband. On this particular day, the focus was on not questioning your husband and not asking too many questions. After reading the challenge from Day 2 my husband said, “Well, that’s a punch in the face for you!”
We broke out with laughter. I knew he was right. I suppose I could have felt hurt or have become mad…nope, I laughed at the irony of it.
Plus, I was caught.
You can’t hide your struggles from your husband. As you may have deducted I tend to ask a lot of questions. I am quite inquisitive by nature. My mom says I popped out asking questions. It’s kind of one of my things. I’m working on it…daily.
Would you like a snippet of the “don’t question” marriage challenge? The one that busted me and gave me a gut punch?
Here it is…
Challenge 2: Don’t Question –
You ask him how his day was…
…After he tells you, you begin shooting off rapid-fire questions.
“Why did you say that?”
“Why did you let that person go and not the one who
“Why didn’t you tell your boss to wait until after the holiday
“Why. . .why. . .why. . . ?”
Noooooo! Stop it! Asking him why is like saying he did it wrong.
Well, that’s just a snippet of Day 2 of the 7-Day Marriage Challenge.
You get the idea.
So, did my own words smack me in the face? Yes, yes they did. Marriage is hard work and each day we are given the opportunity to do marriage better. We get the chance to start over each day and do better than the day before and strive to be the best husband or wife we can. Does marriage sometimes give us a gut punch? Yes-siree-bob. Did I need a reminder? Yup! Am I working on it? Yes! I’m working on it daily.
How about you?
